The federal government uses it to then TELL the colleges to which you are applying, how much your family can be expected to pay [EFC= Expected Family Contribution] toward your education. Hopefully the colleges will then offer you a financial aid package that will allow you to attend those schools

FAFSA Tip! Money for financial aid is given out on a first-come, first serve basis. The earlier you fill out the form, the better. Your colleges may say you have until March, but by then all the money will be gone.

- On January 1st, go online and fill out the FAFSA Form.
