College For Me

Important Tips!

On the Common Application, there is a box asking you to supply “Additional Information.”

Use this area for these types of things:

  • If you had to check the box YES for being suspended. You may have written your essay about this experience, but you may not want to explain the situation that resulted in the disciplinary action. Colleges want to know that you learned from the experience and they are naturally concerned that you might be a binge drinker. You need to show you have matured.
  • If you have taken any early college classes (courses at a local college while still in high school) list them here along with the name of the college, course title, and grade earned. (Be sure to ask the colleges to send in your official transcript as part of your overall application.)
  • Anything else you think needs explaining: taking a year off after high school, a period during your sophomore year when you had mono and your grades took a dive, a pre-engineering curriculum you are taking, etc.
