Supporting Employees
If you have employees enrolled in higher education, you can support them by providing on-site resources:
- Allow employees to use computers/other resources to complete coursework
- Establish employee-to-employee mentoring/goal setting on attaining higher education
- Link employees to resources available from outside sources/agencies:
- Show employees how they can finance/save for education through College Savings Accounts, including:
- LifeLong Learning Accounts (LiLA’s)
- Family Development Accounts
- Harold Alfond College Challenge Grant – $500
Available for children born after January 1, 2009
Scholarships is to start a NextGen® account.
- Create flexible scheduling opportunities to fit school schedule into work schedule
- Tax Credits for college costs
- Scholarships
- Actively help employees seek scholarships and financial aid by booking College for ME-Androscoggin’s PAL for a workshop
- Reimburse tuition costs and/or books and/or other incurred expenses
- Learn while you earn – pay for employees tuition, when they are hired; employee then pays back costs through long-term payroll deduction
- Host classes on-site for employees
- Apply unused earned-time off to costs of college/professional certification
- Participate in C4ME-A Employer-to-Employer Support Workshops
- Adopt an education and training support policy (for your current and prospective employees!)
